As is, the original NEC PC Engine outputs only RF. This kit consists of 2 components that will upgrade the console to output RGB. As part of the install, the RF port will be replaced with a Sega Genesis 2 9 pin miniDIN port that will enable the following outputs:
- composite video
- RGB
- Component Video (using HD Retrovision cables or similar RGB to component encoders)
A comprehensive install includes the following:
- Replace the RF only port with a Sega Genesis 2 9 pin miniDIN port
- Enable all the pins on the port to have the same electrical characteristics as a real Sega Genesis 2 (standard Genesis cables will work)
- Install RGB amp
- Install stereo audio amp - multi I/O port on the back does no output line level audio, requiring older mods to increase the volume on the TV to max to hear anything. This amp will fix this
- replace 2 ceramic capacitors on the board to remove jailbars in video output
NOTE(S):
- An original (white) PC Engine system must be provided in good working condition
- RGB amp, audio amp, 9 pin miniDIN port are all provided as part of this install
- In the pictures above, the customer decided to replace the stock white shell with a modern 3rd party shell
- LIMITATION: CD audio from a connected CD-ROM2 will not work. We use an audio amp designed by DB Electronics and Mobius Strip Tech; it has no support for CD audio. If CD audio is important for you, we can install the TurboNanza RGB kit instead which does. Contact us for details.
