The original SNES uses multiple ICs to generate the video out. This results in a somewhat blurry, dim looking image. Recently, RetroSix in the UK came up with a solution to fix the blurry image in the original SNES; the SNES CleanRGB + EdgeBuster. I have tested this solution in different SNES and Super Famicom consoles (both on a Sony PVM as well as OSSC HDMI scalar) and am very impressed by the output. I'm unable to tell the difference between this solution and an RGB modded 1-CHIP console. I am now stocking these kits and offering install service for it.

A comprehensive install includes the following:

  • Install the RetroSix CleanRGB + EdgeBuster RGB amp in your SNES
  • Replace the voltage regulator with a new 7805
  • Replace C11 capacitor to eliminate any potential horizontal line issues
  • system cleanup and verification

NOTE(S):

  • Given the popularity of this mod, the RetroSix PCB is always in stock and included in the price of the install
  • A working SNES 2-CHIP system must be provided
  • This mod also applies to the Super Famicom 2-CHIP revision
  • This mod does not effect composite or S-Video output
  • You will need to supply your own standard SNES SCART RGB cables (Csync that uses 470 ohm resistor)
